Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion are looking for a dedicated and efficient General Kitchen Assistant to join our team at the Pibwrlwyd Campus. The role is to provide general kitchen assistance to support the smooth running of practical teaching sessions and Restaurant Service. This role would be well suited to someone who is a great communicator with interpersonal and organisational skills along with the ability to work flexibly alongside both colleagues and learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general kitchen assistance and support, prepare and gather materials and equipment for teaching staff and learners.
- Maintain high levels of hygiene during kitchen and restaurant preparation/clean down and a clean and safe working environment, complying with Health and Safety regulations.
- Clean and maintain equipment as planned, required or requested to ensure smooth running of catering and hospitality department, receiving relevant training as and when necessary.
- Maintain correct storage of foodstuffs, beverages, equipment and materials within stores in accordance with the requirements of college procedures and Health and Safety.
- Support and work alongside the technician and to (when necessary) order foodstuffs, beverages, equipment and materials.
- File delivery notes and complete paperwork within the stores system in accordance with departmental and financial procedures.
- Handle and control petty cash in accordance with financial procedures.
- Handle monies from food sales in accordance with financial procedures.
- Maintain an inventory of all items, keeping records of breakages and losses.
- Ensure Catering facilities are clean and tidy at all times.
- Undertake laundry services and support the coordination of laundry services.
- Participate in course team and curriculum area meetings as required.
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent.
- GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent.
- Relevant experience within the catering industry/field.
- Be competent in the use of the kitchen equipment and machinery.
- Good communicator with diplomacy and tact.
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work flexibly.
- Good presentational skills.
- Ability to work evenings.
- Willingness to cover the absence of technician staff.
Desirable Criteria:
- NVQ Level 2 Qualification in a Catering & Hospitality or industry related qualification (or willingness to undertake appropriate training).
- Appropriate Health & Safety training (or willingness to undertake appropriate training).
- First Aid Qualification (If you are not First Aid qualified, you may be expected to undertake training).
- A good understanding of the support role in Further & Higher Education.
Welsh Language Requirements:
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1 Desirable.
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1 Desirable.
