Job Summary
Role Title: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Mentor
Location: Northop (with travel to other sites)
Contract Type: Permanent: Full time
Salary: £27,120 - £27,500
We currently have a vacancy for an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Mentor to work in our dynamic Inclusion team. This role involves traveling to our Deeside and Yale sites to provide cross-campus support when required.
The ASD mentor provides a complementary service to existing support within the College, addressing the needs of autistic students who need help to overcome barriers in order to achieve their full potential.
What you will do
- Support effective transitions for learners with social communication difficulties and experiencing extreme anxiety.
- Improve the college experience of those who experience social anxiety.
- Provide support for students with ASD and social communication difficulties with the practical impact of their autism on their academic experience in the classroom and/or during break and lunchtimes.
- Work closely and communicate effectively with the College’s Inclusion team to support liaison with teaching staff and college services.
- Deliver focused interventions to build confidence and motivate students to engage in their timetabled sessions and undertake the independent study required to complete their course.
Must haves
- Educated to Level 2 or equivalent standard in English and Maths or above
- Currently holds a Level 2 Digital Literacy or is willing to work towards
- Professional experience of supporting people with autistic spectrum disorders in an FE Setting or similar
- Experience of providing 1:1 and group support to learners with additional support needs in an educational setting or related environment
- Confidence in working independently with learners with ASD
Welsh skills aredesirablefor this specific post. We are seeking candidates who can help us grow our bilingual provision and service.
