We are seeking a Counselling Service Co-ordinator to join our team. In this role you will manage the day-to-day delivery of the Colchester Institute/University Centre Colchester Counselling Service (CICS), ensuring a high-quality service that meets legal requirements, professional good practice and ethical frameworks.

You will assess clients’ suitability and support needs, allocating them to an appropriate student counsellor, as well as delivering lesson-based introductions to the service and completing the induction of students undertaking counselling placements.

About the role:

  • Provide day to day management and coordination of the service.
  • Deal with incoming enquiries from service users and external agencies.
  • Manage the online room booking system for clients/counsellors/supervision.
  • Conduct and record risk assessments using counselling expertise in relation to new and existing clients.
  • Allocate clients to the most suitable counsellor for therapeutic support.
  • Be available to students for administrative/pastoral support where required.
  • Oversee and manage the allocation of student counsellors for supervision sessions in line with BACP guidelines.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of working with clients with mental health issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of professional body regulations (BACP Ethical Framework).
  • Experience of counselling in-person, video and telephone.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to creating a safe learning environment.
  • Experience in completing clinical assessments (including risk).
  • Demonstrable commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • An awareness of the importance of sensitive situations i.e. confidentiality and pseudonyms.
  • Evidence of ability to review and improve existing practices where required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification in Counselling.
  • Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent.
  • Registration with BACP.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
