The Council is seeking a Recycling and Waste Project Officer who can provide project support to the Fit for the Future Waste Services programme, specifically on recycling and waste focused project delivery.
Duties of the role
As an essential member of the Neighbourhood Services Team, you will coordinate staff members, contractors, managing agents, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively. You will be assisting the Council in meeting its obligations under the Government waste reforms, including introducing food waste collection for flats and changes to kerbside collections. You will also support the implementation of the emerging new Recycling and Waste Strategy for Colchester 2025-2040. Your key duties will include:
- Conducting site visits across the city to assess and inspect sites, liaising with managing agents on necessary changes and improvements.
- Validating or capturing accurate site data and applying decisioning criteria to confirm status and plan for each site.
- Obtaining and evaluating quotes from suppliers, placing orders, and coordinating work schedules with contractors.
- Facilitating meetings and discussions to resolve issues and enhance collaboration.
- Engaging with various stakeholders, including community members and internal teams, to gather feedback and inform project decisions.
- Supporting the governance and monitoring of projects, maintaining risk registers and issue logs.
- Monitoring project budgets, including forecasting, expenditure, and costs against delivered benefits and outcomes.
Qualifications and skills required
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A-level or equivalent and relevant experience.
- Experience contributing to a range of projects and/or programmes.
- Project Management qualification or significant experience.
- Ability to plan, monitor, and prioritize activities.
- Understanding of risk management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across the city.
