As a local government authority providing a diverse range of public and commercial services, we are proud to operate Leisure World Tiptree and its growing programme of indoor climbing activities. We are now seeking Casual Indoor Climbing Instructors to join our team and support the delivery of our expanding climbing programme at our Leisure World Tiptree site. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing and dynamic climbing programme, helping more people get active and enjoy climbing in a safe and supportive environment.
Duties of the role
As a Climbing Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering safe, engaging and inclusive climbing sessions for a wide range of participants, from complete beginners to more experienced climbers. You will ensure all sessions are well‑organised, enjoyable and tailored to meet the needs and abilities of those taking part, helping to build confidence and encourage progression. You will be expected to set up, check and maintain equipment in line with operating procedures, while carrying out dynamic risk assessments to ensure the safety of all participants at all times. Working closely with Duty Officers and colleagues, you will contribute to the smooth running of sessions and support the ongoing development of the climbing programme. Creating a welcoming and positive environment is key to this role. You will deliver a high standard of customer service, helping to provide a friendly and inclusive experience that encourages repeat attendance and participation. You will also play an active role in safeguarding, ensuring a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults and reporting any concerns in line with procedures.
Qualifications and skills required
To be successful in this role: We are looking for individuals who hold a minimum of a recognised climbing qualification such as CWI, ICA or an equivalent site‑specific qualification, alongside a strong understanding of health and safety practices. You should have experience delivering climbing sessions, good communication skills, and the ability to adapt sessions to suit a range of abilities. A proactive and reliable approach, combined with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, is essential. Additional qualifications such as First Aid at Work, Mountain Training or BMC modules, and experience in route setting or equipment fitting would be beneficial but are not essential. A willingness to develop skills and undertake further training is highly encouraged.
