We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Bereavement Services Team as a Cemetery and Crematorium Technician Apprentice. Having recently acquired City status, we have an ambitious People agenda focused on embedding our new vision, purpose and values across the council and enabling continuous improvement and performance delivery.

Duties of the role

  • As an essential member of the Bereavement Services Team, you will deal with a variety of enquiries from bereaved families, funeral directors, and members of the clergy.
  • You will undertake general administration and office duties including reception duties, processing of crematorium and burial papers and memorial applications.
  • There will also be opportunities to shadow staff undertaking front of house duties in the crematorium chapel, including operating the Obitus music system and preparing the chapel for services before each funeral.
  • You will need to be willing to learn how to facilitate the scattering of cremated remains and witness and walk in burials within the grounds of the cemetery.
  • As well as your Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard Level 3 qualification, this role will enable you to achieve a BTEC accredited Crematorium Technician training scheme qualification towards the end of your apprenticeship.

Qualifications and skills required

  • To be successful in this role, you will have GCSE Maths and English or equivalent, as well as excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of working in an extremely sensitive and emotive environment is essential.
