We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable and customer-focused Casual Level 1 Cycle Instructors to support the delivery of our growing cycling programme across Colchester.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about encouraging people of all ages and abilities to develop confidence, skills and enjoyment through cycling in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.
The successful candidate will support the planning and delivery of a variety of cycling activities, including instructed sessions for children, adults, schools, community groups, organised activities and children's parties.
You will play an important role in helping participants build their cycling skills and confidence while ensuring every session is engaging, well-organised and tailored to the needs of those taking part.
We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and customer service skills who can create a positive and supportive learning environment for riders of different ages, abilities and backgrounds.
You will be confident working as part of a team, assisting with session set-up and pack-down, carrying out routine equipment checks and ensuring activities are delivered safely and professionally at all times.
The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach, a genuine enthusiasm for cycling and active lifestyles, and a commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and delivering high-quality experiences for participants.
Experience working with children, community groups or mixed-ability participants would be highly beneficial, as would a willingness to support outreach activities, events and initiatives designed to increase participation in cycling across the local community
Duties of the Role
- Deliver safe, engaging and participant-focused cycling sessions.
- Support children's parties and group activities.
- Assist with session preparation, set-up and pack-down.
- Conduct routine pre-use checks of bicycles and equipment and report defects.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and booking information.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Support promotional events, outreach activities and community cycling programmes.
- Work in accordance with safeguarding, health and safety, equality and data protection procedures.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- British Cycling Level 1 Instructing Qualification or equivalent relevant cycling instructing experience.
- Experience supporting cycling sessions or group activities for children, adults or mixed-ability groups.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work outdoors and adapt activities to participant needs and weather conditions.
- Confidence riding a bicycle for demonstration purposes.
- Flexible approach including evenings and weekends.
Desirable qualifications and experience include
- Bikeability qualification or experience supporting active travel programmes.
- Safeguarding training.
- First Aid qualification.
- Basic bike maintenance knowledge.
- Experience supporting community events and outreach activities.
