Purpose of the Role

To undertake the safe and efficient driving and operation of trains as directed on weekly roster and diagrams. This challenging and UK mobile role offers a rewarding career path with outstanding opportunities for growth.

Person Specification

  • Have a Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Hold a valid psychometric test with the OPC.
  • Live in the Anglia region (e.g. Peterborough, Colchester, Norwich).
  • Able to work weekends, bank holidays and a mixture of days and nights as part of a shift‑based roster.
  • Willingness to stay away from home (at company expense) when required.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Windows packages such as Word and Outlook.
  • Motivated to learn and develop and maximise personal contribution to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be committed to becoming a qualified mainline rail driver through the successful completion of Colas Rail’s Driver Training Programme.
  • Driving and conducting the machines/trains safely and professionally.
  • Follow all operational rules, safety procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrate clear and professional communication skills at all times.
  • Provide accurate reports in a timely manner to help maintain a safe railway.
  • Be committed to working towards an individual competency plan regarding routes and tractions and maintain all competencies.
  • Be expected to meet operational requirements as the organisation may change from time to time.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
