Purpose of the Role: The purpose of the role of Team Leader (Operations) is to ensure the effective operation of the fleet of On Track Machines (OTM’s) under the O&M contract for TfL. You will oversee a dedicated team allocated to the TfL fleet and uphold the highest standards of safety and maintenance. This role is pivotal in contributing to the safe and reliable operation of passenger train services. Your leadership will drive operational excellence and foster a culture of safety within the team.
Person Specification:
- Previous working experience with OTM’s with extensive knowledge as a Driver/Operator on the Central Operating Section of the Elizabeth Line.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Training, mentoring and coaching ability and willingness to train in these areas.
- Positive attitude and thrives in a busy and pressurised environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication - ability to take the lead on safety critical reporting and safety critical/non-safety critical situations.
- Analytical problem solver.
- Flexible, honest & punctual – Able to work weekends, bank holidays and a mixture of days and nights as part of a 24/7 shift-based roster.
- Willingness to stay away from home (at company expense) when required.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe).
- Full knowledge of UK Rail Operations and Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guiding and inspiring your team members to work in a professional and respectful manner.
- Lead in staff planning and rostering.
- Lead in Train Path Planning and OTMS input to comply with fatigue guidelines.
- Attend and provide input to TfL OTM planning meetings.
- Influencing and ensuring a safe working environment for all.
- Hosting monthly team briefs, keeping your team up to date with Company news and events.
- Encouraging safety conversations and close call reporting.
- Ensuring accurate reporting, recording any real time issues including incidents, accidents and environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner, informing the appropriate parties within the correct timescales in accordance with company procedures.
- Responsible for daily machine consist being carried out and any issues escalated to the maintenance department, communicating all issues affecting operation shift performance to relevant parties.
- Lead by example - All activities must be undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Conducting team Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) annually.
- Supporting and encouraging team training and development needs.
- As the organisation may change from time to time, you will be expected to meet the evolving operational requirements.
