Purpose of the Role

To ensure safety, compliance, and performance of all Colas Rail Freight Class 37, 43 and 56 vehicles through effective management of monitoring systems, engineering change, legislative change, and improvement initiatives. The role holder will manage the assets to ensure we provide enough locomotives to run services.

Location

The role will be based in Rugby with travel to Derby up to once per week and visits to sites when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse job risks and ensure the safety of people and protection of the environment by complying with legislation, regulations, and internal rules in the fields of Health, Safety and the Environment.
  • Guarantee the execution of the job and organise it by making necessary resources available (human and hardware requirements), transmitting useful information and documents to the Site Foremen; responsible for all aspects of the project lifecycle – planning, scope definition, design, execution, and delivery.
  • Monitors financial and contractual management: establishes and monitors the budget, ensures the relationship with the customer, manages subcontractors/suppliers, invoicing and monitoring of customer overdraft, identifies and manages risks and opportunities, etc.
  • Controls the job's performance and implements corrective measures if necessary: presents the site foreman with performance objectives, monitors the associated indicators and reports to line management.
  • Provides added value in the optimisation of operations: demonstrates creativity in searching for innovative solutions (variants, reduction of deadlines, etc.).
  • Manages teams: organizes, manages training, participates in recruitment, assesses performance, etc.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum Level 3 Qualification in an engineering based subject.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Able to commute to Rugby and Derby.
  • Experience in maintaining and/or managing assets.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Analytical skills – spot what others miss.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Awareness and understanding of engineering standards and compliance.

Desirable

  • Level 5 Qualification in an engineering based subject.
  • Professionally registered with an engineering body.
  • In‑date personnel track safety (PTS).
  • Experience in project management.
