Purpose of the Role: To prepare the machine, assess the work requirement and ensure the plan is achieved to meet the required specification whilst maintaining all health, safety and environmental safeguards, working to the VMI and operational manual.
Person Specification:
- Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering
- Achieved core competencies of Foundation Course, Machine Setup and Pack‑away for Operation, and Grinding Rail grinding maintainer for Operations/Maintenance competency matrix
- Driving Licence
- PTS
- Fire Training
- Emergency First Aid
- Depot / Yard Inductions
- Basic Laser Safety
- COSS
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating or maintaining the machine safely and effectively, as instructed by the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor
- Second man / fire watch duties on grinding operation
- Reporting any machine defects to the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor, where appropriate
- Collating data output from the machine where applicable
- Working safely and effectively to Colas Rail Services Operations procedures
- Assisting as required
- Maintaining quality systems, machine safety packs, and stabling database by monitoring, reviewing, and recommending updates
- Undertaking any other duties if assessed as competent
- Carrying out COSS duties as required
- Daily maintenance duties including chipping and blowing
- Completing daily Work Return Forms
- Adapting to operational requirements as the organisation changes
- Other reasonable duties as required from time to time
