Purpose of the Role
The Fitter is responsible for carrying out essential maintenance on Mobile Maintenance Trains (MMTs) to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This role is part of a graded structure, progressing from Trainee to Maintainer, then Fitter, and eventually Technician with increasing responsibilities and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating the A50 and hoist
- Performing regular maintenance and repairs
- Troubleshooting technical issues
- Maintaining accurate technical and engineering documentation
- Supporting high performance targets to minimise downtime
Person Specification
Essential
- Have a Full UK Driving Licence
- Must live near Paddock Wood, Basingstoke or Horsham
- Able to work weekends, bank holidays and a mixture of days and nights as part of a shift‑based roster
- Hold a level 3 qualification in a relevant mechanical or engineering background
- Computer skills in Microsoft Windows
- Medical fitness for the role as part of the onboarding process
Desirable
- Previous experience working on Mobile Maintenance Trains
- Previous railway experience
- Level 4 in a mechanical / engineering or relevant discipline
