Purpose of the Role: The Project Manager will be responsible for the management of new and reconfigured depot sidings and associated building extensions and internal enhancements to the existing depot building. The role will involve interaction with West Midland Combined Authority’s (WMCA) Project Manager, WMCA’s Depot Interface Manager, WMCA’s third‑party designers and Midland Metro Limited, the operators of the depot.
Person Specification:
- Desired Qualifications: Construction / Engineering related Degree, CSCS Card, SMSTS, First Aid
- Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of safety, quality and environmental procedures; design and construction knowledge of building, light rail and general construction; knowledge of commercial and financial procedures; people management; experience of managing multi‑disciplinary project teams; experience of delivering within an effective safety culture in a high‑risk environment; experience of project delivery in a live operational Rail Depot environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver siding and building extensions and enhancements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Manage and lead MMA’s teams through construction, testing and commissioning stages of the project.
- Lead on subcontractor tendering and assist the commercial team with appointing strategic delivery partners.
- Manage the Wednesbury depot building extensions and OMC maintenance facility enhancements to cost, time and quality through specialist supply chain contractors.
- Liaise with internal MMA teams, source plant, labour, materials and specialist contractors for sidings and associated works to cost, time and quality.
- Working with WMCA’s Project Manager and Depot Interface Manager reduce impacts on metro operations, so far as reasonably practicable, during the works.
- Continuously look to optimise working methods.
- Learn and share lessons and best practice with MMA and WMCA teams.
- Develop strong effective working relationships with WMCA, WMCA’s designers, Midland Metro Limited and other key stakeholders ensuring they are suitably consulted and informed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage change and adjustment event requests, in accordance with MMA procedures and processes.
- Manage all project risks, in accordance with MMA procedures and processes.
- As the organisation may change from time to time, you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
