Purpose of the Role

The Production Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and coordinated delivery of track discipline projects, ensuring outputs are achieved on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

The role provides leadership to the Track Delivery function, overseeing multiple concurrent workstreams and ensuring that all activities are delivered in compliance with requirements and Health & Safety standards.

  • Good knowledge and understanding of track standards, processes and procedures
  • Experience with track form types found in Light Rail
  • SMSTS / CSCS/ PTS

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the safe, timely, cost-effective and high-quality delivery of a portfolio of light rail (tram / urban rail) projects.
  • Provide overall leadership and management of the Track Delivery function, ensuring that a competent team of construction managers, supervisors and engineers is in place and fully resourced to deliver works safely and effectively.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with organisational safety procedures, and establishing a proactive safety culture across all projects.
  • Establish and maintain a safe working environment, including the preparation and implementation of construction phase plans, risk assessments, method statements and associated safety documentation.
  • Drive safety performance across the portfolio, including leading close call reporting, safety engagements, investigations and the timely close‑out of actions in collaboration with the Health & Safety team.

Apply sound project management principles, taking overall accountability for cost, quality and programme performance in collaboration with Project Leads, Construction Managers and Technical Engineers.

  • Ensure track works are fully integrated across disciplines, with effective coordination between engineering, construction, design teams, third parties and the wider programme.
  • Lead, motivate and manage track delivery teams, ensuring technical compliance, high-quality installation, and adherence to specifications across all renewal and enhancement works.
  • Develop team capability, identifying and addressing training, development and competency needs across safety, technical and leadership areas.

• Oversee commercial and cost management, including

  • Producing and owning construction estimates
  • Delivering projects in line with agreed budgets
  • Supporting accurate forecasting with the commercial team
  • Managing change control processes and ensuring variations are captured and reported
  • Procuring labour, plant and materials in line with delivery requirements
  • Support planning and operational delivery, including input into programme schedules, possession/access strategies (where applicable), and business planning.
  • Support business development activities as required.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.
