The role of the Safety and Sustainability Advisor for the Urban Rail division is to support the Midland Metro Alliance, providing motivation and drive, reinforcing the concept that safety and sustainability are key to everything we do, and providing professional OHS advice and assistance in a positive and energetic manner. This role is primarily project based on site.

- Risk Assessment techniques – trained Risk Assessor.
- Behavioural based safety techniques.
- Competent in training development and delivery.
- Computer literate and highly proficient in use of Office applications: Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Behavioural / Collaboration knowledge.
Qualifications – Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Member of an appropriate professional institute, achieved or working towards CMIOSH.
- Experienced in HS management including understanding of legislation, issues, policies, procedures and practicalities within the infrastructure or construction industry.
- Highly developed organisational and communication skills.
Qualifications – Desirable
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- IEMA Foundation Certificate.
- Competent OHSAS 18001 Auditor.
- Accident investigation – trained root cause investigator.
- A knowledge of the industry.
- Light Rail, rail or highway multi-disciplinary delivery experience.
- Strong experience of working in a customer led environment.
- Developing & delivering H&S training across all levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee activities on behalf of the Head of Safety & Sustainability to ensure the Urban Rail division complies with all HS Legislation & Alliance Partner requirements.
- Raise the profile and awareness of safety and sustainability throughout the Urban Rail division & support accident prevention initiatives.
- Provide professional advice and guidance on the maintenance of the Urban Rail division safety management system to ensure continual improvement and use of best practice.
- Engage with all employees, Alliance Partners & Contractors to promote a positive SS culture.
- Monitor SS performance and effectiveness for projects allocated to you, ensure audit plans / targets are achieved.
- Undertake SS inspections when required and co-ordinate thorough investigations into incidents and accidents.
- Manage the reporting of all SS issues and performance to the Head of Safety and Sustainability.
- Assist the Head of S&S and the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager in developing, communicating and implementing OSH strategies & initiatives.
- Develop & deliver S&S Training/Briefings to Urban Rail division Staff (TBT Etc).
- Be responsible for data management including supporting admin to maintain a monitoring system that captures and reports workplace Safety & Sustainability progress & KPI data.
- Conduct personal, venue and activity risk assessments as required.
- Contribute to the development of systems and procedures, and the whole team approach in meeting quality and performance targets.
- Review Alliance Partner / Sub-contractor safety documentation & approve or feedback and assist as necessary.
- Meet the operational requirements as the organisation may change from time to time.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
