Position Summary:
Purpose of the Role – The successful and safe delivery of the programmed work/transit shift of Rail Grinders, Rail Milling and Tampers. You will be competent to drive both types of C21 & C44 Rail Grinders and Rail Milling Machine, and will be trained to operate other types of OTM plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive and route‑conduct machines safely and effectively.
- Report any machine defects to the Grinding Supervisor and/or Maintenance Supervisor.
- Work safely and effectively in accordance with Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
- Assist as required.
- Prepare and carry out safety inspections on plant before train entry service.
- Help maintain quality systems and the stabling database by monitoring, reviewing, and recommending updates.
- Undertake route learning / refreshing as required, maintaining and expanding route knowledge.
- Drive other OTM’s such as Rail Milling Machine and Tampers.
- Keep all routes current via the Colas Rail route app.
- Report any issues in real time to Colas control.
- Compile detailed reports/statements for any incidents or accidents immediately.
- Maintain flexibility due to the nature of operations.
- Adapt to operational requirements as the organisation changes.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
Person Specification – SHEQ Responsibilities:
- Work to applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements.
- Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Submit Close Calls and safety conversations as per procedure.
Competencies Required:
- Ability to drive all types of Rail Grinders and Millers when required.
- Valid Driving Licence.
- PTS qualification.
- Fire Training.
- Emergency First Aid.
- Trainer / Assessor Qualification.
