Purpose of the Role

To thoughtfully coordinate and support the allocation of resources required for the safe, timely and cost effective delivery of Colas Rail Freight services. This will be achieved in alignment with Colas Rail Freight rostering guidelines, staff Terms and Conditions, and customer requirements, including those of commercial customers and Network Rail Supply Chain Operations. To collaboratively develop and maintain staff rosters from initial planning through to successful delivery, working in close partnership with Freight Delivery Managers on a daily basis and with guidance from the Freight Resourcing Lead. To provide a welcoming and reliable point of contact for drivers and ground staff within the respective region, offering ongoing support and clear communication.

Where will I be located?

The role holder will work from our Rugby office 5 days a week and will work alongside the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all rosters are maintained to a high standard of quality and accuracy, with careful attention to detail.
  • Take ownership of and support the full lifecycle of rosters, from creation through to completion, sensitively handling amendments, cancellations, or sickness in close collaboration with Delivery Managers.
  • Report to and work closely with the Delivery Manager on day to day activities, and operate with guidance and support from the Freight Rostering Lead.
  • Participate in and contribute to weekly meetings with Delivery Managers and the Freight Rostering Lead to align on resource planning and work allocation.
  • Build strong working relationships with Delivery Managers and the Freight Rostering Lead, collaboratively planning route learning and actively supporting the development and ongoing maintenance of route and traction knowledge for all drivers.
  • Provide responsive support to Operations Control by helping to monitor, communicate, and action revised timings and same day late changes.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues across operations, including Train Planners, Resource Planners, and Locomotive Planners.
