Purpose of the Role
To carry out repairs and maintenance to a high standard on a variety of On Track Machines operated by Colas Rail to ensure that the on‑site reliability and safety is maintained in line with Colas Rail ROGS regulations. To provide additional technical and practical support to fitter/operators during in‑Depot machine maintenance. When required, assist in any maintenance activities on On Track Plant away from the Home depot.

Key Responsibilities
- To carry out maintenance and repairs to a high standard in the Home depot on all On Track Machines operated by Colas Rail.
- To work safely with due regard to their own and other peoples’ well‑being.
- During depot activities, keep the workplace clean and tidy at all times in compliance with all Health and Safety and Environmental practices and policies.
- At all times wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the tasks being carried out.
- Comply with all local and company rules or instructions on safety matters.
- Participate in a positive manner in all company safety initiatives.
- Attend safety briefing sessions as required by the company.
- Complete all appropriate documentation for periodic maintenance in a responsible and professional manner making it available to The Maintenance Team Leaders for examination and filing.
- When required, work on On Track Machines away from the Home Depot.
- Attend for work in compliance with a previously agreed rota, which may include weekends and night shifts.
- Be prepared to attend off or on‑site training to improve knowledge and competence of maintenance techniques and practices.
- Present themselves for duty promptly and fit to carry out their duties as required by the company policy and procedures and when required book on and off duty through the Colas Rail Control Desk at Rugby.
- At the end of each working shift, provide a comprehensive written account to the Maintenance Team Leader detailing all works carried out.
- If the need arises, be prepared to lodge away from home for a limited period in order to efficiently carry out maintenance duties on On Track Machines.
- Be in possession of a full UK road vehicle driving licence, which must be presented for inspection by the company annually or as and when required.
- When driving company vehicles, do so within the bounds of the Highway Code and any appropriate company instructions or procedures.
- Participate in the taking of samples for analysis and any works arising from these as part of the Condition Based Monitoring scheme.
- Comply with all company procedures regarding issuing equipment from Depot based stores holdings.
- Participate fully and proactively in the company competency assessment programme.
- As you will expect, the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
