Purpose of the role Colas are looking for part time HGV Cat C (Class 2) drivers, with CPC, to work on the Area 9 contract in the Midlands as Zero Hour Winter Maintenance drivers based in Coleshill B46 3HL. The Winter Maintenance Season will commence on the 1st of October 2024 and will finish on the 1st of May 2025. Drivers must commit to availability every day for the duration of the service. We will pay you a lump sum figure per day of £20 regardless of whether there are any requirements. We will then pay you £16.50 per hour worked. You must be able to work the hours directed by our Duty Supervisor if the weather is of a poor condition. Locations– Coleshill, B46 3HL & Strensham, WR8 9LJ & Doxey, ST18 9LG. There are separate adverts for all 3 areas, please apply to the one geographically closest to you. Main Responsibilities The Winter Maintenance Drivers will be appointed on a temporary contract to cover the Winter Maintenance season from 1st October 2024 until 1st May 2025. This may be extended if the weather is of a poor nature at the time. We are looking for suitable candidates to work on a zero-hour contract basis on PAYE. The hours will vary per week depending on call outs. Decision making for morning and evenings are generally made on a lunchtime however there will be an expectation that you could take a phone call at any time and respond to the callout. The Main responsibilities will be to drive a Winter Maintenance Gritting Vehicle for the duration of the winter maintenance season within Area 9. Be on standby throughout the winter maintenance season, good time keeping is essential. Undertake the gritting of the roads on your allocated route and all the associated activities required to deliver the Winter Service, for example washing down the vehicle and equipment, fuelling up, keeping good records. Committed to working in a team to keep the Area 9 Network safe during the Winter season . Ideal Candidate The idea candidate will have the following: A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and a full CPC is essential. A valid Winter Maintenance qualification is desirable but not essential as training will be provided for suitable applicants. A City and Guilds qualification will be arranged for mid-October 2023 and the above-mentioned temporary contract will be extended to cover this.
