We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to lead setting out, QA, and technical coordination activities on a groundwork and RC frame project in Woolwich. You will be responsible for overseeing all engineering operations on site, ensuring accuracy in line and level control, maintaining quality standards, and supporting project delivery in line with programme requirements. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers where required, and act as the key engineering point of contact between site teams, subcontractors, and management. We have long-term work available, 10 hours paid per day, with competitive rates for suitable candidates.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Managing and maintaining up-to-date construction drawings and document registers
- Leading site surveys, control stations, and level surveys prior to project commencement
- Overseeing and carrying out setting out activities across all elements of the project
- Ensuring accurate line and level control throughout the works
- Checking building layouts against site boundaries and approved drawings
- Supervising and supporting Site Engineers and Surveyors
- Taking off quantities and coordinating the ordering of groundworks and RC frame materials
- Investigating and resolving engineering and setting out issues
- Raising, managing, and closing out RFIs with the design team and client representatives
- Leading QA processes on site using FlowForma and implementing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Reviewing technical submittals and maintaining accurate as-built records
- Liaising with project managers, site managers, clients, consultants, and subcontractors on technical matters
- Using CAD software and Leica EDM equipment (TS06 / TS12 / TS16)
- Supporting programme delivery through proactive engineering management
- Completing IT induction and training programmes within the first 1–3 months
- CSCS Engineering / Surveying card or equivalent qualification
- Proven experience working as a Senior Engineer or Engineer on groundworks and reinforced concrete frame projects
- Strong knowledge of setting out, QA procedures, and technical coordination
- Proficient in the use of Leica EDM total station equipment
- Experience managing RFIs, technical submittals, and as-built documentation
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively with project teams and subcontractors
- Right to work in the UK
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related discipline
- Experience managing or mentoring junior engineering staff
- Previous experience on large-scale RC frame and groundworks projects
- Ambition to progress into Engineering Manager or Project Management positions
