We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer - Transportation Infrastructure to take full technical responsibility for transportation infrastructure projects across Bristol. You will lead the on-site engineering function, ensure accurate delivery of works, and act as the primary point of contact for all technical and setting out matters, while supporting and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for setting out and surveying of all infrastructure works, ensuring accuracy of line, level, and position.
  • Oversee delivery of highways, roads, drainage, and associated utility works.
  • Maintain and manage up-to-date construction drawings, registers, and as-built records.
  • Verify site layouts in accordance with design information, specifications, and boundary constraints.
  • Identify, raise, and track RFIs, technical queries, and design issues through to resolution.
  • Implement and manage Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and quality assurance processes.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, ensuring best practices and standards are maintained.
  • Carry out material take-offs and support procurement of infrastructure materials.
  • Utilise surveying equipment (e.g. Leica EDM TS06 / TS12 / TS16) and CAD software effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and health & safety requirements.
  • Complete company IT systems induction and training within the first 1–3 months.

Requirements

  • 278 Works Experience a MUST.
  • CSCS Engineering / Surveying card or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Engineer within transportation infrastructure, highways, or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong setting out experience on highways, drainage, and external works.
  • Proficient in Leica EDM equipment and CAD software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with site teams and subcontractors.
  • Reliable, proactive, and organised approach.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering or Construction.
  • Working towards or holding Chartered status (e.g. ICE).
  • Experience on live highways or public-facing infrastructure projects.
