We are seeking a skilled QA Engineer (Transportation Infrastructure) to support the delivery of Section 278 highways and civil engineering projects across Bristol. This role is solely focused on quality assurance, inspection, and compliance, ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with design specifications, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and project quality standards. You will be responsible for driving right-first-time delivery across highways, drainage, utilities, and associated infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all site-based quality assurance activities across transportation infrastructure works
- Ensure full implementation and compliance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Carry out regular quality inspections and audits across highways, drainage, and associated civils works
- Maintain and manage quality records, check sheets, and compliance documentation
- Ensure works are delivered in line with design drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements
- Use digital QA systems (e.g. FieldView / FlowForma or equivalent) to record and track quality data
- Identify, raise, and track non-conformance reports (NCRs), defects, and corrective actions through to close-out
- Liaise closely with engineers, site managers, and supervisors to ensure quality standards are achieved on site
- Support handover documentation and completion packs, ensuring accurate as-built quality records
- Monitor workmanship quality across highways, roads, drainage, utilities, and associated infrastructure works
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems
- Support project teams in achieving quality-led delivery and continuous improvement
- Complete company IT systems induction and training within the first 1–3 months
Requirements
- MUST have Section 278 works experience
- CSCS Engineering / Surveying card or equivalent qualification
- Proven experience in a QA Engineer or similar quality-focused role within transportation infrastructure, highways, or civil engineering projects
- Strong understanding of highways, drainage, utilities, and external works
- Experience working with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and quality management systems
- Familiarity with digital QA platforms (e.g. FieldView / FlowForma or equivalent)
- Strong attention to detail and a structured, methodical approach
- Good communication skills and ability to work with site and project teams
- Reliable, punctual, and proactive approach
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience working in live or traffic-sensitive highway environments
- Previous involvement in Section 278 or local authority infrastructure schemes
- Basic CAD awareness (for reviewing drawings only, not setting out)
- Eagerness to develop within a QA / quality management pathway
