We are seeking skilled Excavator Operators to support the delivery of transportation infrastructure and Section 278 highway works across projects in Bristol. You will operate 360 tracked excavators on highways, drainage, and associated civils works, ensuring all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate 360 tracked excavators on transportation infrastructure and Section 278 highway works
- Carry out excavation for road construction, drainage, kerbing, utilities, and associated civils works
- Undertake cut/fill operations, formation works, sub-base preparation, and reinstatement works
- Carry out trenching, service exposure, and installation support for drainage and utilities
- Work on highways tie-ins, junction improvements, kerb lines, footpaths, and public realm works
- Use trench boxes, manhole boxes, trench sheets, and appropriate excavation support systems
- Work safely around live traffic environments and existing utilities/services
- Follow permit-to-dig systems and service avoidance procedures at all times
- Carry out daily pre-start checks, inspections, and basic maintenance of plant
- Ensure machines are kept clean, safe, and operationally efficient
- Communicate effectively with site supervisors, engineers, and gangs to deliver works to programme
Requirements
- Experience on Section 278 highway works or local authority infrastructure schemes
- CPCS or NPORS (CSCS-affiliated) Excavator 360 (Tracked) – below and above 10t
- CPCS Lifting Operations or NPORS Excavator as Crane (where required)
- Safety Critical Medical (as required by site)
- Proven experience on highways, infrastructure, or Section 278 works
- Strong awareness of working around live traffic and buried services
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a civils team
- Right to work in the UK

- GPS machine control experience
- CPCS / NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper
- CPCS / NPORS Ride-On Roller
- CPCS / NPORS Telehandler
- CPCS / NPORS Quick Hitch Attachment
- 5+ years’ experience in civil engineering or highways environments
Please note: NPORS cards must be CSCS-affiliated and carry the CSCS hologram to meet client requirements. If you do not currently meet this, support can be provided to achieve compliance.
