We are looking for an experienced 360 Excavator Operator to join a drainage gang working alongside a Pipelayer and Topman on major groundwork and infrastructure projects in Hailsham. The role involves operating 14T+ tracked excavators on deep drainage, sewer, and associated groundwork operations while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and plant care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating 14T+ 360 tracked excavators for drainage and groundwork activities
  • Excavating trenches for deep drainage, sewers, storm lines, and utility installations
  • Working closely with the Pipelayer and Topman to ensure safe and efficient pipe installation
  • Trimming stone, backfilling, and maintaining correct trench levels and gradients to drawings and laser levels
  • Lifting and positioning pipes, manholes, trench boxes, manhole boxes, and trench sheets safely
  • Carrying out safe digging practices and adhering to permit‑to‑dig systems before breaking ground
  • Experienced working around live services and using safe service avoidance techniques
  • Maintaining safe working areas around excavations and supporting gang productivity
  • Carrying out daily pre‑start inspections, safety checks, and basic machine maintenance
  • Ensuring machines are kept clean, fuelled, greased, and in good working condition
