We are looking for an experienced Tarmac Foreman to join our team on a busy project in Crawley. You will be responsible for supervising both machine lay and hand lay tarmac operations on site, ensuring all surfacing works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards in line with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising and coordinating machine lay and hand lay tarmac gangs on site
- Managing daily site operations and ensuring smooth workflow across all surfacing activities
- Ensuring all works are carried out in line with RAMS, drawings and specifications
- Planning and allocating labour, plant and materials effectively for both machine and hand lay works
- Leading daily briefings and toolbox talks
- Monitoring quality of asphalt works and ensuring high standards of finish are achieved
- Maintaining strict health, safety and environmental compliance always
- Liaising with site managers, clients and other trades to ensure programme delivery
- Monitoring progress against programme and addressing any delays or issues
- Completing site records, diaries and basic reporting duties
- Supporting and mentoring operatives to maintain productivity and standards
Requirements
- Gold CSCS Card (Supervisor/Foreman level)
- SSSTS or SMSTS qualification
- First Aid at Work certification
- Proven experience working as a Tarmac Foreman or similar supervisory role
- Strong understanding of both machine lay and hand lay surfacing operations
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Strong awareness of health and safety legislation and site procedures
- Reliable, punctual and able to manage teams effectively
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Full UK driving licence
- 5+ years’ experience in tarmac surfacing or highways projects
- Experience supervising large machine lay and hand lay gangs
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Ability to manage multiple work fronts and tight programmes
- Experience working on major infrastructure or highways schemes
