We are seeking an experienced Foreman to oversee and coordinate platform construction and attendance works on a busy Section 278 highways project in Bristol. You will lead site gangs, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of platform build-ups, kerbing, surfacing preparation, and associated civils works in line with programme requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise site operatives, ensuring all works are carried out safely, efficiently, and to specification.
- Oversee platform construction works including formation build-ups, sub-base, Type 1 installation, kerbing, edging, and surfacing preparation.
- Manage attendance works supporting highways and Section 278 activities, ensuring smooth coordination between trades.
- Deliver associated infrastructure works including drainage, utilities, and external/public realm interfaces.
- Conduct risk assessment briefings, method statement briefings, and toolbox talks daily.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, particularly in live traffic and public-facing environments.
- Plan and coordinate plant, labour, and materials to maintain programme delivery.
- Ensure safe systems of work when excavating around buried services and existing utilities.
- Interpret construction programmes and translate them into daily site operations.
- Monitor quality of platform works to ensure compliance with specifications, levels, and tolerances.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure performance aligns with programme and quality expectations.
- Maintain clear communication with site management, engineers, and stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and resolve on-site issues to maintain productivity and programme.
- Complete company IT systems induction and training within the first 1-3 months.
Requirements
- Section 278 Works experience essential.
- CITB SMSTS or SSSTS (depending on project requirements).
- CSCS Supervisor Card.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Safety Critical Medical (as required by site).
- Proven experience as a Foreman within transportation infrastructure, highways, or civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of platform construction, highways works, drainage, and external works.
- Experience working in live traffic environments and public interfaces.
- Reliable, proactive, and able to coordinate multiple gangs and trades.
- Right to work in the UK.

- CPCS / NPORS (CSCS-affiliated) Excavator (Tracked).
- CPCS / NPORS (CSCS-affiliated) Forward Tipping Dumper.
- CPCS / NPORS (CSCS-affiliated) Ride-On Roller.
- CPCS / NPORS (CSCS-affiliated) Telehandler.
- NRSWA (Street Works) qualification.
Please note: NPORS cards must be CSCS-affiliated and carry the CSCS hologram to meet client requirements. Support can be provided to achieve compliance if required.
