We are currently seeking an experienced Tarmac Screwman to join a busy Machine Lay Gang on a project in the KENT Region. You will be responsible for controlling the screed on the asphalt paver, ensuring the correct depth, width and finish of laid materials in line with project specifications. This is a skilled, hands-on role that requires precision, strong technical knowledge and an excellent eye for quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating and controlling the screed on the asphalt paving machine
  • Setting and maintaining correct levels, camber and thickness of asphalt throughout
  • Adjusting screed controls to ensure a consistent, high-quality finish
  • Monitoring material flow and temperature to ensure optimal laying conditions
  • Carrying out on-ground checks to maintain line and level accuracy
  • Working closely with the paver operator, rakehands and roller drivers
  • Assisting with setup and breakdown of the paving machine
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment at all times
  • Ensuring compliance with all site health & safety regulations and safe systems of work

Requirements

  • Valid CSCS Card (essential)
  • Proven experience working as a Tarmac Screwman / Screedsman
  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving operations and machine lay techniques
  • Ability to read levels and work accurately to specifications
  • Good communication and teamwork skills within a machine lay gang
  • Strong awareness of health & safety practices on site
  • Reliable, punctual and committed to quality workmanship
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • NPORS or CPCS (CSCS-affiliated) Paver / Asphalt Machine
  • NPORS or CPCS (CSCS-affiliated) Ride-On Roller
  • NPORS or CPCS (CSCS-affiliated) Forward Tipping Dumper
  • Streetworks (NRSWA) Ticket
  • 5+ years of tarmac or asphalt screed experience
