Role Purpose/Objective
As the Workshop Welder & Fabricator you are responsible for carrying out high-quality welding, fabrication, and repair work on heavy plant equipment and attachments. The role ensures buckets, groundwork systems, and other components are rebuilt and maintained to safe and reliable standards. Working independently or as part of the team, the Welder & Fabricator delivers accurate fabrications, completes structural repairs, and supports workshop operations, with occasional on-site work when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair and rebuild excavator buckets, ensuring all work meets required structural and performance standards.
- Replace wear components, including cutting edges, side plates, wear strips, and heel shrouds.
- Carry out crack repairs and structural strengthening on plant machinery attachments.
- Fabricate parts from drawings or templates, producing accurate components and assemblies.
- Perform general welding and mechanical repairs on plant machinery and attachments.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
- Attend on-site repair jobs when required.
- Repair and refurbish groundwork boxes and formwork items to meet safety and performance requirements.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in heavy plant welding and fabrication, including structural repair work.
- Strong MIG welding skills and confident gas-cutting ability across various material thicknesses.
- Hands-on experience repairing buckets and plant attachments, including assessing wear and damage.
- Ability to work independently, manage workload, and use initiative.
- High attention to detail, producing accurate and durable welds and fabrications.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety practices.
- Full UK driving licence for occasional on-site work.
Desirable but not essential
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Welding & Fabrication.
- Experience within plant hire or construction.
- CSCS card.
- Experience in aluminium welding - Formwork.
