About the Role

The purpose of this role is to support the Examinations Department in ensuring that all examinations are conducted in accordance with JCQ guidelines, creating and maintaining an environment in which students can achieve their full potential. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and directing students into the examination room according to the seating plan
  • Patrolling the room discreetly
  • Maintaining awareness of other invigilators
  • Ensuring the correct ratio of students to staff at all times
  • Helping students understand and adhere to examination regulations
  • Assisting with the accurate completion of registers
  • Distributing and collecting examination papers and scripts
  • Supporting the secure delivery and return of materials
  • Supervising the orderly exit of candidates
  • Reporting incidents
  • Supporting students with any issues that arise
  • Completing incident logs when required
  • Working collaboratively within the invigilation team under the direction of the Lead Invigilator
  • Assisting the Exam Inspector as needed

This role is offered on a zero‑hours basis, with working hours dependent on exam schedules. Successful candidates will need to be flexible and available during peak exam periods.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will demonstrate tact and diplomacy when interacting with students and staff, maintaining a calm and helpful approach, particularly under pressure in the examination room. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team, adhere to examination rules, regulations, and school policies, and be firm yet fair while relating well to candidates and maintaining an appropriate air of authority. Experience of working with young people or in a school environment, as well as prior experience invigilating examinations, is desirable.
