Contract Data Product Manager / Data Product Owner / Business Analyst London (Hybrid) 6 Months Immediate Start
You'll own 1–2 data products end-to-end, working directly with a ring-fenced engineering team to turn messy business processes into clean, usable data outputs.
Not a classic PM who's learned some data. Someone who grew up in data — knows SQL, understands schemas, can read a data model — but has matured into owning the product / business analyst side. Requirements, specs, stakeholder management, backlog.
The non-negotiables in plain terms:
- Can sit with a messy business process and translate it into a clean data model
- Writes specs that engineers can actually build from
- Comfortable challenging stakeholders without being difficult
- Ships things. Doesn't theorise.
What you'll be doing:
- Taking ownership of 1–2 data products from discovery through to delivery
- Mapping complex business processes and translating them into logical data models
- Gathering requirements from stakeholders across the business and writing specs engineering teams can actually build from
- Managing backlogs and sprint planning with a dedicated engineering team
- Collaborating across data-producing and consuming teams to align definitions and validate outputs
What you'll need:
- Strong SQL — you can read and interrogate data models, not just talk about them
- Experience designing logical or semantic layer data models
- A track record of building data products — APIs, data outputs, operational feeds — not just dashboards
- Excellent stakeholder management across technical and non-technical audiences
- The ability to map a complex, fragmented process and make it make sense
- Financial services or fintech experience preferred; lending or credit a plus
What the role isn't:
It's not for someone who produces PowerPoints and facilitates workshops. The client values pragmatic execution, low ego, and people who get stuck in. If your default is to over-engineer or wait for perfect information, this probably isn't the right fit.
The detail:
- ~6-month contract
- ~ London hybrid — some office presence required
- ~ Immediate start (May 2026)
- ~ Competitive day rate
