We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technical environment, enjoys taking ownership of complex design challenges, and can deliver high-quality engineering solutions across multiple projects.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, and industrialising next-generation high voltage components and systems, ensuring reliability, manufacturability, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop HV components and systems including insulation structures, connectors, and mechanical assemblies.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings in accordance with BS 8888.
- Apply dielectric design principles to manage electric field stress, insulation integrity, and long-term system reliability.
- Take full ownership of design solutions from concept through prototype validation and industrialisation.
- Plan and conduct prototype and HV withstand testing, interpreting results to refine designs.
- Use engineering calculations and FEA tools to correlate analysis with testing and optimise mechanical and electrical performance.
- Validate engineering decisions using evidence, testing results, and sound engineering judgement.
- Produce clear and structured technical reports, design documentation, and presentations.
- Ensure solutions are robust, manufacturable, and aligned with cost, schedule, and technical constraints.
- Independently identify root causes and implement effective engineering solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts and design decisions clearly across multidisciplinary teams.
- Build strong working relationships with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
- Understand customer technical requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
- Represent the engineering team confidently during technical discussions with customers.
- Act as a trusted technical contributor and role model within the team.
- Guide and mentor less experienced engineers with constructive feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve designs, processes, and engineering best practices.
- Develop expertise continuously and apply new learning to strengthen technical output.
- Proven track record delivering multiple technical design projects.
- Demonstrable experience producing mechanical designs across several projects.
- Strong understanding and application of GD&T in accordance with BS 8888.
- Evidence of practical engineering application in previous roles.
- Ability to justify design decisions using engineering principles, calculations, and data.
- Prototype testing, result interpretation, and iterative design refinement.
- Experience correlating test data with analysis and improving designs using FEA.
- Background in concept generation, ideation, and industrialisation of mechanical systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent – or significant relevant experience.
