ASMPT - Technical Procurement Engineer

Join us where we’re enabling the digital world to realise the incredible potential, and we’ll support you to realise yours too.

Our technology powers EVERYTHING with a digital component: we produce innovative equipment that enables the world’s biggest names in electronics to bring their technology to market.

We also enjoy a forward-thinking environment where continuous investment powers opportunities to work on exciting new projects on a global scale.

While we have offices – and career opportunities - around the world, the real magic happens at our Product Innovation Centre in Weymouth, where our people are quietly but confidently working to enable and evolve digitisation on a global scale.

They enjoy challenge and opportunity in equal measure, sharpen their skills and knowledge, be exposed to multiple disciplines, and experiment at the cutting edge.

The teams get to do it all in an environment where we put people first, are collaborative and friendly, and everyone enjoys living and working in a location that offers the best of city, country, and coast.

We think you will like it too.

The Role

As the range of projects we work on continues to grow, so does our team.

We are looking for a Technical Procurement Engineer to join our Supply Chain Management (SCM) Procurement team at our Product Innovation Centre in Weymouth.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with an engineering or technician background who enjoys working closely with design teams and suppliers.

Rather than focusing solely on purchasing, you'll use your technical knowledge to influence product design, improve manufacturability and cost, and ensure components are sourced effectively from concept through to production.

You will partner with Engineering, Supplier Quality and Commodity Managers to deliver robust, cost-effective solutions while supporting the successful launch of innovative products.

You Will

  • Work alongside Engineering to influence product design through Design-to-Cost principles.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to develop effective sourcing strategies.
  • Challenge designs where appropriate, recommending alternative components, manufacturing methods or suppliers to improve cost, quality or lead time.
  • Manage supplier selection, RFQs, commercial negotiations and supplier nominations.
  • Develop sourcing packages and BOMs for prototype and pre-production builds.
  • Ensure materials are available to support project milestones and build schedules.
  • Work closely with Supplier Quality to support successful product launches and supplier qualification.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and supply chain risks throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Introduce new suppliers with innovative technologies and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance technical requirements with commercial objectives.

About You

You are an engineer or engineering technician with a strong understanding of manufacturing, components and engineering documentation, who enjoys working at the interface between engineering and supply chain.

You are confident reading technical drawings and BOMs, asking the right questions, and influencing engineering decisions to achieve the best commercial and technical outcomes.

You enjoy solving complex technical challenges, collaborating across departments, and working with suppliers to deliver high-quality products on time and at the right cost.

You Will have

  • Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) or engineering change activities.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and component selection.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to influence design decisions and collaborate with engineering teams.
  • Experience preparing RFQs, evaluating supplier quotations and supporting commercial negotiations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on cost, quality and delivery.
  • Experience using ERP systems (SAP desirable).
  • Experience working with cross-functional and, ideally, international teams.
  • We Will Offer You

We believe our people deserve to feel supported, valued and empowered, both inside and outside of work.

That's why we provide a comprehensive package of wellbeing, financial and lifestyle benefits, including:

  • A comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 support and counselling.
  • Full training on our systems, tools and processes to help you succeed.
  • Access to health and wellbeing benefits, including a health cash plan, virtual GP, eye tests and more.
  • Financial peace of mind through life assurance, pension support and savings options.
  • A wide range of salary sacrifice benefits, including a local gym membership, cycle scheme, will writing services and more.
  • Family-friendly policies with enhanced leave for parents.
  • Generous annual leave starting at 25 days.
  • A welcoming culture with regular social events and activities where colleagues can connect, relax and have fun together
