The Role
As a Kitchen Assistant you will assist in the smooth operation of the kitchen by helping the chefs keep the kitchen clean, tidy and safe as well as washing and drying the dishes and cutlery. You will support the chefs and your team colleagues by performing your role to the best of your ability while conforming to company policy, procedures and goals. You will follow Health & Safety and COSHH procedures within the workplace, keeping yourself, co‑workers and guests safe at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the chefs and kitchen staff with day‑to‑day kitchen operations, following instructions, communicating clearly and using initiative when appropriate.
- Assist the chefs with basic food preparation, ensuring Food Safety requirements are met.
- Load/empty the dishwasher as necessary.
- Handwash pots and pans as necessary.
- Clean kitchen surfaces and carry out general cleaning duties according to relevant rotas or ad‑hoc as necessary.
- Follow correct close‑down procedures, including cleaning floors, walls and bins.
- Carry out kitchen assistant duties safely and effectively at all times.
- Complete checks for cleanliness, health, safety and quality within the kitchen and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Report any maintenance problems without delay.
- Undertake any necessary training as deemed necessary by management.
- Follow company procedures, guidance and training as appropriate.
- Report any Health & Safety matters immediately to the head chef and take remedial action within the scope of your training, ensuring compliance.
- Comply with company policies regarding Fire, Health & Safety, COSHH and Security.
- Perform any other ad‑hoc duties requested by management.
