The Business Systems Analyst II (London Market Underwriting) is responsible for partnering with Digital Product Managers (DPMs), Underwriting business stakeholders, system owners and delivery teams to capture, analyse and translate underwriting business requirements into clear functional and non-functional specifications. The role acts as a key liaison between Underwriting, Operations and Technology, ensuring that London Market underwriting processes are accurately represented and effectively implemented across core platforms including Policy Administration Systems (PAS), IRIS, Subscribe and Guidewire. The BSA will contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of underwriting capabilities spanning risk capture, pricing, policy administration, endorsements, renewals, bordereaux, and regulatory reporting, aligned to AII London Market ways of working. Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Acts as a London Market underwriting systems subject matter expert, supporting underwriting, operations and IT colleagues.
- Builds strong working relationships with Underwriters, Underwriting Assistants, Operations, Compliance and Product stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency throughout delivery.
- Captures, analyses and documents end-to-end underwriting processes, including placement, policy life cycle, mid-term adjustments, renewals and delegated authority flows.
- Leads and facilitates requirements elicitation activities such as workshops, process walkthroughs and one-to-one stakeholder interviews.
- Produces clear, structured functional and non-functional requirements suitable for agile delivery teams, ensuring traceability from business need through to implementation.
- Works closely with DPMs to support backlog creation, refinement and prioritisation, ensuring underwriting value is clearly articulated and understood.
- Collaborates with engineering and architecture teams to ensure requirements are technically feasible and aligned with platform standards across PAS, IRIS, Subscribe and Guidewire.
- Supports system configuration and integration activities involving London Market platforms and third-party vendors, including defect triage and enhancement delivery.
- Works with QA colleagues to support robust testing, including test scenario definition, UAT support and defect validation.
- Conducts system walkthroughs and demonstrations to validate solutions with underwriting stakeholders.
Strong understanding of business analysis concepts, methods and practices within an IT delivery environment. - Proven experience within London Market underwriting, including Lloyd's and Company market processes.
- Solid understanding of underwriting systems and workflows, including policy life cycle management and underwriting controls.
- Experience working with Policy Administration Systems (PAS) and London Market platforms such as IRIS, Subscribe and Guidewire.
- Experience analysing financial and underwriting data, including premiums, endorsements and bordereaux-related information.
- Strong understanding of agile delivery methodologies and working within cross-functional product teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts for varied audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Experience implementing or enhancing London Market underwriting platforms, including PAS and market-wide services.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Guidewire PolicyCenter within a London Market context.
- Experience with IRIS and Subscribe integrations and associated underwriting workflows.
- Experience using JIRA or similar agile tooling for backlog and delivery management.
- Working knowledge of SQL and ability to interrogate data to support analysis and validation.
Qualifications
- Agile certification (eg Scrum).
- Application Development and Project Management experience beneficial., 10+ years of experience delivering large, complex projects/programmes, including at least 5 years within the insurance industry.
- Strong experience and working knowledge of how the insurance industry operates.
- Demonstrated experience operating in agile project environments.
