A site engineer is responsible for overseeing construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance with all aspects of health and safety and reporting any information affecting health and safety for any person on a proposed site, e.g., underground services, ground conditions affecting the stability of excavations or safety of operatives (soil, water table, toxic substances, gases, etc.).
- Liaising with consultants, subcontractors, site supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and the general workforce involved in the project.
- Setting out, levelling, and surveying the site in accordance with the drawings and specifications.
- Day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site labour force and the work of any subcontractors.
- Liaising with the Project Manager/planner regarding construction programme and programme constraints.
- Resolving technical issues with employer’s representatives, suppliers, subcontractors, and statutory authorities.
- Quality control in accordance with company procedures, method statements, quality plans, and inspection and test plans.
- Familiarity with the form of contract on the project and the implications that any variation or change orders will have on the programme and costs.
Essential Criteria:
- A degree/Master’s in civil engineering.
- A member of the relevant professional institution.
- 3+ years relevant site experience.
- Must have a full clean UK driving licence.
- Relevant experience and performance on similar projects with a commitment to carry out the project safely in an environmentally friendly way.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in project management software and a strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methods.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
Problem-Solving Abilities:
- Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues that may arise during the construction process.
Desirable Criteria:
- Collaborating with project management and design teams to ensure quality outcomes.
- Managing daily operations and capacity of infrastructure systems.
