We’re looking for a part-time Financial Controller (40%) to join our growing team. This role will lead the financial management of the business, ensuring strong governance, effective processes, and sound decision‑making to support our continued growth.
What you’ll do:
- Provide strategic financial guidance to ensure the company meets its commitments and long‑term goals.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the business operates efficiently and responsibly.
- Prepare and manage the annual operating budget, ensuring compliance with financial and statutory regulations.
- Work with the Director to report quarterly on performance against budget, highlighting key successes, challenges, and opportunities.
- Review and monitor debtors quarterly, ensuring proactive credit control.
- Liaise regularly with the Director and leadership team on financial strategy, budgets, and compliance.
- Manage bank accounts and oversee all payments, including payroll, ensuring accuracy and timeliness while optimising cash flow.
- Provide financial insight and advice to project teams to ensure all work contributes to company profitability.
- Oversee the preparation of annual accounts in line with legal and statutory requirements.
- Maintain effective systems, policies, and processes to support efficient financial management.
- Procure, negotiate and monitor external contracts and services to ensure they operate effectively and provide the best value to the company.
What we’re looking for:
- Strategic thinker with the ability to shape and implement financial strategy.
- Qualified or part‑qualified accountant (AAT or equivalent).
- Strong hands‑on experience in day‑to‑day financial management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with leadership and teams across the business.
Terms:
This is a permanent position. Payment for this 40% role is £12,800 pa, based on a full‑time salary of £32,000. It might also suit someone working on a contract basis. Two days per week (15 hours) is an average that will need to be worked flexibly within each quarter. The Finance Controller will be expected to be primarily office‑based, at Coffee Designs premises in the centre of Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne.
