Church Manager - St Stephen’s and St Wulstan’s Church, Selly Park

Who we are

We are a warm and welcoming conservative evangelical church within the Church of England – Birmingham, seeking to ‘know Jesus and make Jesus known’ through Christ-centred biblical teaching and loving fellowship. Located in a mainly residential suburb of Birmingham, bordering the University of Birmingham campus, our congregations are diverse in age and ethnicity, with a substantial number of families. We are outward-looking, with a desire to grow in our ability to reach the parish and university with the good news of Jesus.

What we are looking for

We are looking to recruit a Church Manager to support this mission of ‘knowing Jesus and making Jesus known’ and provide a foundation for our ministries. We are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic, capable, enjoys working with people and brings a warm, friendly approach both in person and over the phone. They will also demonstrate high levels of integrity, discretion and professionalism.

In overseeing the day-to-day running of church life this role is vital, because it enables the clergy and other ministry leaders to focus on teaching, pastoral care, and evangelism by ensuring the church functions efficiently, legally, and sustainably.

Key Responsibilities

  • A committed Christian in full agreement with the church’s conservative evangelical doctrine and values as expressed in the UCCF doctrinal basis .
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with initiative.
  • Experience in office management, operations, or organisational management.
  • Competence with IT systems (Microsoft 365, databases, digital communication tools).
  • High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Good general education (A ‑ level or equivalent) including GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Because of the nature of the role serving the church family you should be a committed member of the congregation or willing to join on appointment.

The full job description and person specification can be found in the application form below.

Because this role involves supporting the spiritual and missional life of the church, there is an Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for the postholder to be a practising Christian who aligns with the church’s conservative evangelical convictions. This role will also require an enhanced DBS check.
