Working Hours: 8 hours per week
Rate of Pay: Β£15.40 per hour
Contract: Initial one-year contract, with the possibility of extension subject to review and funding
Reporting to: Vicar of St Boniface Church / St Boniface PCC
Location: St Boniface Church, Quinton, with some visiting in the local community

Background

St Boniface is a welcoming and vibrant parish church serving the community of Quinton. We are a family church with people of different ages and backgrounds and are committed to serving our local community and helping people experience friendship, belonging and connection.

Over the past three years, we have developed a successful programme of work with people in later life, including Tuesday Treasures, our weekly social group, home visiting and other activities. This work is supported by a committed team of volunteers and has provided an important source of friendship and connection for many people.

We are now looking for someone to build on this strong foundation and help us extend its reach further into the wider community.

The Role

The Older People's Community Worker will help people in later life remain connected, develop friendships and participate in community life, particularly those who may experience loneliness or social isolation.

The postholder will lead and develop Tuesday Treasures, undertake some home visiting, work alongside our volunteers and help develop connections with local groups and organisations.

This is not about starting a new project from scratch. We are looking for someone who will value what has already been established while bringing warmth, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to its next stage.

Duties include:

  • Leading and developing the weekly Tuesday Treasures group.
  • Planning activities and arranging occasional speakers and refreshments.
  • Visiting people who may be lonely or socially isolated.
  • Encouraging people to participate in appropriate social activities and events.
  • Working alongside and supporting the existing volunteer team.
  • Developing links with the Food Bank, Moat Meadows and other local organisations.
  • Supporting occasional events and activities.
  • Helping the work reach more people within the wider Quinton community.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is warm, friendly and enjoys building relationships with people.
  • Has a particular interest in supporting people who may be lonely or isolated.
  • Is reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently.
  • Can organise activities and use their own initiative.
  • Works well with volunteers and community partners.
  • Is willing to build upon the successful work already established.

Experience of working with people in later life or within a church, voluntary or community setting would be helpful, but personal qualities, enthusiasm and the ability to build good relationships are particularly important to us.

St Boniface Church is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. The successful applicant will be expected to work within the church's safeguarding policies and procedures.

Application deadline: Sunday, 25th October 2026 by 23:59GMT
