We are seeking an experienced Piping Designer - Principal/Lead to support a large-scale offshore development project on a Contract assignment. The role involves piping layout development, 3D modelling, cross-discipline coordination, and technical leadership of design teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead detailed 3D piping and equipment modelling using Smart 3D across offshore topsides or floating production facilities.
- Model mechanical equipment and packaged systems, including maintenance envelopes and interface points.
- Develop and optimize piping routing and support concepts.
- Senior designer with good understanding and hands-on experience in offshore production facilities and floating assets (FPSO layout).
- Handling corridors, operational access routes, maintenance envelopes (material handling).
- Safety spacing, constructability, operational access requirements.
- Support model review sessions and multi-discipline reviews.
- Manage design updates and late-stage layout changes with buildable solutions.
- Drive cross-discipline model coordination.
- Work closely with the pipe stress and materials teams.
- Review and integrate vendor package data and verify package equipment.
- Ensure correct interface points and support provisions (nozzle orientations and support).
- Drive clash detection reviews and model integrity checks.
- Achieve construction-ready coordinated models (clash-free).
- Support layout quality standards and design execution planning (quality plan, schedule, estimates).
- Oversee and guide and review other piping designers across assigned model areas.
- Ensure design deliverables comply with project and technical standards.
- Work independently and manage assigned scope with minimal supervision.
Qualifications Needed
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 15 years of piping design experience in industrial, marine, or energy projects.
- Strong knowledge of piping layout and pipe support design principles.
- Hands-on experience with 3D plant design software such as S3D or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a Principal or Lead piping design role on large-scale offshore development projects - Platforms and FPSOs.
- Solid experience in offshore platform/FPSO piping and pipe support design.
- Good coordination and team leadership skills to be able to lead and guide a team of Piping/MDS Designers on assigned areas/sub-areas.
