Come and work with King Cody gigs, travel and serious skills required. Cody is a young man with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) who lives life at full volume. One shift you might be at a concert with him; the next you're in the hydrotherapy pool or working through his physio programme.

Please read before applying: this is NOT an SEN, autism or befriending role, and it is absolutely not about sitting around keeping someone company. Cody's support involves some clinical and medical intervention, including emergency (midazolam) rescue medication, oxygen therapy and respiratory care. Previous experience of PMLD would be preferable, however there will be training provided and you will always be working with another experienced colleague.

  • Personal care, bowel care, moving and handling, and safe mealtime support
  • Dietary meal planning preparing meals to Cody's dietary and safe-swallowing requirements
  • Seizure monitoring and accurate record-keeping
  • Oxygen therapy and respiratory care, including monitoring and responding to changes in Cody's breathing
  • Hydrotherapy sessions with Cody - you must be confident in the water
  • Assisting his physiotherapist and carrying out therapy programmes, including rebound therapy
  • Planning his week, keeping his appointments, and driving his wheelchair-accessible vehicle (full UK licence essential)
  • Accompanying Cody to concerts, the pub, activities and on travels (passport handy)
  • Researching PMLD-appropriate groups and opportunities for him (not SEN/autism provision)
  • Some waking nights, with household duties such as ironing his clothes, cleaning and maintaining his equipment

Shifts from 7am on a mixture of static and variable patterns, including evenings, weekends and some waking nights. Full-time hours available; rotas agreed in advance.

Genuine, demonstrable experience supporting people with PMLD or complex health needs is required. SVQ 3 in Social Services and Healthcare (SCQF Level 7) or equivalent regulated qualification would be preferable, but being a caring person cannot be taught, you either are or you're not.

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Confident in the water (hydrotherapy)

Training provided to genuinely build your skillset. Fully funded training includes midazolam rescue, first aid, oxygen therapy and respiratory care, moving and handling, bowel care, rebound therapy, and intensive interaction plus paid induction and shadow shifts. These are portable, specialist complex-care skills that will serve your whole career.

£13.45 - £16.00 per hour depending on experience and skills, with holiday pay and pension. Concerts, travel and days out as part of the job with a supportive family employer who values their team and understands the pressure of work/life balance. The opportunity to join his existing team and help a young man who is affected by life limiting disabilities and dealt a rough hand in life, the support he needs to rule his kingdom.

To apply: describe your experience with PMLD or complex care, confirm any relevant qualification, and your full UK driving licence.
