About the role
We are seeking a proactive and student focused Student Retention Advisor to join our Student Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student success by supporting learners throughout their academic journey and helping them overcome barriers to engagement, progression and achievement. As a Student Retention Advisor, you will work closely with students at risk of withdrawal or underachievement, providing tailored guidance, interventions, and support. You will collaborate with academic departments, wellbeing services, and other key stakeholders to enhance student engagement and improve retention outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
- Monitor student engagement, attendance, and progression data to identify students requiring additional support.
- Contact and engage with students who may be at risk of being withdrawn from their studies.
- Conduct one-to-one meetings to understand individual circumstances and develop support plans.
- Signpost students to appropriate internal and external support services, including wellbeing, financial, academic, and disability support.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and interventions using relevant systems.
- Build strong relationships with academic teams and professional services colleagues to coordinate support.
- Contribute to retention initiatives, campaigns, and student success projects.
- Analyse retention trends and provide reports and recommendations to management.
- Support the development of policies and procedures that enhance the student experience.
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Experience working in a student support, education, customer service, or advisory role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively.
- Experience handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Competent in using databases, CRM systems, and Google Suite.
Desirable
- Experience within education, further or higher education, or training environments.
- Knowledge of student engagement and retention strategies.
- Understanding of safeguarding.
- Ability to analyse information and identify appropriate interventions.
Salary from £25,000 to £27,000 per year, depending on experience
