GitHub is looking for an experienced Senior Product Designer to join the Design team. At GitHub, we build solutions that improve the developer experience so they can learn, collaborate, automate, build, and deliver software with quality and confidence. As a Product Designer, you will partner with other designers, product managers, and engineers to build the future of developer tools and interactive experiences extending across the web, IDEs, terminals, and mobile.

The GitHub Product Design Team is a group of talented individuals with varied backgrounds in product design, design systems, design ops, front-end development, and illustration. You’ll prioritize customer experiences, working closely with systems designers, engineers, technical writers, and product management to create and push for high-quality design.

Responsibilities

  • Define and Plan: Collaborate with product management and development team members to shepherd end-to-end experiences from concept to ship for products.
  • Interaction Design: Create wireframes, journey maps, jobs to be done, scenarios, task flows, and personas in support of interaction designs for hardware and/or software-based experiences.
  • Prototyping: Use digital and physical tools to demonstrate design to teams, customers, and/or stakeholders.
  • Design Quality: Lead collaborations with Engineering for successful design implementation and perform quality checks to ensure the final design is implemented as intended.
  • Collaboration: Seek out opportunities to connect with people and teams working on related projects. Foster meaningful relationships with product, engineering, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Systems thinking: Ensure products are aligned with latest design system primitives and components.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in product or service design OR Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 5+ years experience in product or service design OR Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience in product or service design OR Doctorate in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in product or service design OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing products for end-to-end experiences and applying UX principles, user research methods, and a user-centric approach to product design.
  • 2+ years shipping products and experiences.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Portfolio showcasing your involvement in projects, highlighting your hands-on experience as a product designer.
  • Experience contributing to or using an established design system.
  • Experience designing for developer tools.
