We have an exciting opportunity where you can truly make a difference! We’re looking for a confident and passionate chef to create delicious and nutritious meals for our valued tenants in our brand new Codi Extra Care Service in Porth. As Assistant Chef, you will play a key role in the catering team, supporting to make mealtimes something for the residents to really look forward to. This is a part time (22 hour) permanent position. Shift times aren’t what you would usually expect if you are coming from hospitality; depending on what’s best for this scheme, you would rarely work past 3pm. Alternate weekends required.

About the role: Dan Y Mynydd is a brand-new Extra Care scheme for over 50s with care or support needs that blends the freedom of independent living with the reassurance of on-site support. There are 60 self-contained flats for the valued residents along with a day centre. As Assistant Chef, you’ll create delicious, nutritious meals for our tenants each day—sourcing fresh ingredients, and ensuring top Health & Safety standards. You’ll support the catering team and design menus that cater to cultural and dietary needs, making mealtimes something everyone looks forward to. Because great food brings people together!

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Great communicator – You’ll work closely with the Service Manager, food service assistants, and tenants. Being friendly and approachable is a must!
  • Kitchen experience – You will need some experience working in a professional fresh-food kitchen and hold a basic catering qualification (QCF/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Organised and detail-focused – From chopping and mixing to paperwork, you’ll handle menu planning, stock control, HACCP records, food hygiene compliance, and budgeting. You’ll need to take pride in keeping the kitchen spotless and understand the importance of Health & Safety and Food Safety.
  • Team player – Positive, supportive, and inclusive attitude towards colleagues and tenants.

Pay and Pensions:

  • Annual salary of £25,056
  • Defined Contribution (DC) Scheme with matched contributions up to 10%. Or, Defined Benefit (DB) 1/80th of final salary for every year of service.
