We have an exciting opportunity where you can truly make a difference! We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable individuals with great customer service skills to join our catering team who prepare and serve tasty and nutritious meals for our valued tenants in our CODI EXTRA CARE SERVICE in LLANISHEN, CARDIFF. As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a key role in the catering team, supporting to make mealtimes something for the residents to really look forward to. This is an 18 hour permanent position working 4 days per week from 09:30 - 14:00.

About the role: Llys Enfys is an Extra Care scheme for over 50s with care or support needs that blends the freedom of independent living with the reassurance of on-site support. There are over 100 self-contained flats for the valued residents. This is more than just a kitchen—it’s a vibrant community where your passion for food can truly make a difference. Responsibilities:

  • Support our busy catering team.
  • Help prepare and serve food, lay and clear tables, and ensure the kitchen remains clean, tidy, and safe for our tenants.

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Strong communication skills – Greeting tenants warmly and explaining menu options clearly.
  • Basic understanding of dietary and nutritional needs – Following simple guidelines for vegetarian or allergen-friendly meals.
  • Hands-on approach to kitchen and dining duties – Setting up tables, washing dishes, and keeping everything spotless is key for this role.
  • Team player with a flexible attitude – Jumping in to help with plating up, or tidying when things get busy.
  • Positive, supportive, and inclusive attitude towards colleagues and tenants.
  • Clean and safe – Taking pride in keeping the kitchen spotless and understanding the importance of Health & Safety and Food Safety.

Pay and Pensions: Annual salary of £24,563 (FTE). Pension Choices: Defined Contribution (DC) Scheme with matched contributions up to 10%. Give As You Earn scheme for tax-efficient charity donations. From 1st April 2026 the option to be either weekly or monthly paid.

Time off and Flexibility: 26 days holiday, pro rata entitlement. Rising to 27 days after 1 year service or cash equivalent of 1 day’s annual leave. Maternity & Adoption Leave: 20 weeks. Paternity Leave: 3 weeks.

Getting Around: Mileage paid at 45p plus 5p per passenger per mile. Cycle to Work Scheme.
