A full-time, temporary (12 months fixed term) Male Floating Support Worker to join the Vale of Glamorgan Floating Support Team. The position is primarily Monday to Friday during office hours; some flexibility is required to meet the needs of service users.

About the Role

The Vale Housing Support Service offers housing support to individuals within their homes or temporary accommodation, helping them develop key skills to prevent homelessness, maintain tenancies, change negative behaviour, maintain health and wellbeing, progress to independent living, and make appropriate choices.

Day-to-day duties:

  • React to and support individuals with housing-related needs.
  • Assist with budgeting, debt management, and maximising income through benefits.
  • Support individuals in accessing or entering employment.
  • Provide guidance on household management and essential life skills.
  • Signpost to services for alcohol or substance misuse, mental and physical health, and anti-social behaviour.
  • Deliver housing-related support to help clients take on and/or sustain a tenancy and prevent homelessness.
  • Liaise and work closely with external agencies and professionals (e.g., Social Services, social landlords, lettings agencies) regarding client support needs.
  • Provide appropriate levels of support in a sensitive manner, considering clients’ emotional and intellectual needs while respecting their choices and privacy.

Qualifications

Previous experience or formal qualifications are not required, but a good understanding of housing-related support and welfare benefits or awareness of issues faced by people at risk of homelessness is highly useful.
