Codec is seeking an experienced Senior Azure Integration Engineer to join a dedicated team responsible for the ongoing development, enhancement and evolution of a business-critical Microsoft application platform supporting essential public services. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing and enhancing integration and data solutions built on Microsoft Azure. Working within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team, the role will focus on delivering new functionality, modernising integration processes, improving platform reliability and driving continual improvement across a complex enterprise application estate.
The solution integrates Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE, Dataverse, Microsoft Power Platform and Azure Integration Services, providing the opportunity to work across a modern cloud technology stack supporting critical business processes and citizen outcomes. This is a managed application support and continuous improvement engagement rather than a greenfield build. Because the platform is business-critical and citizen-facing, the role demands the ability to troubleshoot end-to-end across the full integration chain without extensive handoffs from on-premises and SFTP sources, through the Azure integration tier, into Dynamics 365 and out to downstream payment interfaces.
The estate spans both classic data-integration technologies (ADF, SSIS, Azure SQL) and application-level components (Azure WebJobs, .NET services), so breadth of hands-on capability across that boundary is essential. In addition to development and enhancement activities, the role will provide technical expertise in the investigation and resolution of complex integration and data-related issues, acting as a senior escalation point where deep technical knowledge is required.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Azure professional who enjoys solving challenging integration problems, working with modern cloud technologies and contributing to the long-term evolution of a strategically important Microsoft platform.
Key Responsibilities- Integration Design & Development
- Design, develop and enhance Azure integration and data solutions supporting critical business processes.
- Deliver new integration capabilities, automation solutions and platform improvements aligned to customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain data movement, transformation and orchestration processes using Azure-native services.
- Develop, maintain and troubleshoot Azure WebJobs and .NET background services — including batch processing, retry logic, error handling and notification mechanisms — which form a core part of the operational estate.
- Contribute to architecture discussions and technical design activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, supportability and operational efficiency.
- Participate in technical workshops and collaborate with architects, engineers and customer stakeholders.
- Platform Enhancement & Continuous Improvement
- Lead the technical implementation of approved enhancement initiatives and change requests.
- Analyse existing integrations and recommend improvements to performance, maintainability and operational resilience.
- Identify and address technical debt across integration and data services.
- Support the adoption of new Azure capabilities and cloud-native technologies where appropriate.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution and modernisation of the overall solution architecture.
- Azure Engineering
- Develop and maintain solutions built using:
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure SQL
- Azure Logic Apps
- Azure Storage
- Azure App Services
- Azure WebJobs
- Azure Key Vault
- SSIS packages (including the Azure-SSIS Integration Runtime) and KingswaySoft connectors for Dynamics/Dataverse data movement
- Self-Hosted Integration Runtime (SHIR) for hybrid, on-premises and SFTP-based integrations.
- Security & Assurance
- Implement changes in line with secure development practices and the customer's security posture (least privilege, Managed Identities over stored secrets, Key Vault usage).
- Support vulnerability management and remediation activities across the integration estate.
- Contribute to security testing, audit evidence provision and assurance activities aligned to ISO 27001:2022, Cyber Essentials Plus and GovAssure / CAF.
- Follow secure change and access-control processes appropriate to a citizen-facing public sector payments platform.
- DevOps, Release & Quality Management
- Support deployment and release activities using Azure DevOps.
- Contribute to CI/CD implementation and automation initiatives.
- Participate in code reviews and technical quality assurance activities.
- Collaborate with development and testing teams to ensure successful solution delivery.
- Support continuous improvement of application lifecycle management practices.
- Technical Leadership & Escalation Support
- Act as a senior technical resource within the delivery team.
- Provide expert analysis and resolution of complex integration and data-related issues.
- Perform end-to-end fault diagnosis across hybrid integration chains — e.g. SFTP → SHIR → Blob Storage → ADF → SSIS → Dynamics 365, and Dynamics 365 ↔ WebJobs ↔ payment interfaces — isolating failure points independently.
- Participate in root cause analysis and major incident investigations.
- Support knowledge sharing and mentoring within the wider engineering team.
- Contribute to technical documentation, design artefacts and operational runbooks.
- Build and maintain operational runbooks and knowledge-capture to reduce key-person dependency on a lean support team.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Work directly with customer stakeholders and delivery teams to understand technical requirements and business objectives.
- Translate business requirements into robust technical integration solutions.
- Provide technical input into roadmap planning, solution design and continual improvement initiatives.
- Build trusted customer relationships through technical expertise and quality delivery.
- Coordinate effectively within a multi-supplier operating model, managing cross-boundary issues and escalations.
The successful candidate will possess strong hands-on experience designing, developing and delivering Azure integration and data solutions within enterprise environments, together with genuine application-development ability across the .NET stack.
Experience Essential- Proven experience designing and developing Azure integration and data solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL and Logic Apps.
- Hands-on experience with C# / .NET and Azure WebJobs in an enterprise context.

- Experience designing, implementing and supporting system integrations.
- Experience using Azure DevOps and modern application lifecycle management practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrable ability to troubleshoot end-to-end across multiple integrated systems without reliance on extensive handoffs.

- Experience in Managed Services or regulated environments.
- Public sector delivery experience and familiarity with security/assurance frameworks (ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, GovAssure / CAF).
- Experience supporting inherited / third-party-built solutions and leading discovery on undocumented estates.
