What You'll Do
- Strategy & Vision: Define and implement the long-term vision for how the AI Factory builds and scales AI offers as BCG's Practice Areas' central AI and digital product engineering hub. Partner with the Chief Product Office (CPO) and global leadership to integrate fragmented tech capabilities into a unified, high-performance engineering unit. Ensure full alignment with BCG's PAs, BCG X, IT priorities to deliver firm-wide scalable, reusable and compliant AI solutions.
- Leadership & Governance: Lead and inspire a 250+ person multidisciplinary engineering organization, covering product engineering, AI/ML, UX, data and platform design. Co-chair the AI Factory governance forum with the CPO, and represent the unit in global leadership forums. Define operating principles, establish operational KPIs and performance dashboards covering delivery efficiency, quality, user adoption, and ROI. Shape the AI Factory's governance model, setting direction, priorities, and investment allocations across initiatives. Define the AI Factory's operating model, including its interaction with Practice Areas and other areas of BCG (e.g., IT and BCG X). Set and review the budget of the AI Factory, in partnership with the CPO.
- Organization build-out: Lead the integration of the multiple existing units that will be combined into a cohesive AI factory organisation. Design and operationalise the organizational structure required to build and maintain digital solutions and the platform to support them, spanning core build pods, platform teams and enablement functions.
- People & Talent: Define and execute a resource, recruiting strategy and workforce plan (including location, integration of temporary resources, budget management and outsourcing strategy) to fill capabilities' gaps. Partner with People and HR functions to strengthen the AI Factory's Employee Value Proposition, training pathways and retention strategies. Build a high-performing engineering and leadership team that reflects BCG's diversity and inclusion commitments. Oversee capability development and role harmonisation from the integration of multiple existing units.
- Engineering Excellence: Define and implement agile, scalable delivery models for building and maintaining AI and digital tools. Establish best-in-class engineering practices, including CI/CD, code quality, observability and documentation standards. Define and set up platform in partnership with corporate platform teams, with reusable components required to accelerate product development. Oversee continuous improvement in engineering practices, ensuring adherence to best-in-class development standards. Oversee security, privacy and compliance for all AIF products in partnership with IT and Legal.
- Innovation & Commercial Impact: Establish engineering metrics to validate technical product performance as well as customer satisfaction and adapt approach based on feedback and learnings. Translate lessons from current builds into reusable components and frameworks to reduce time-to-market for future offers. Partner with the Product Strategy Lead and the CPO to drive and monitor commercial performance, and to capture feedback to drive product innovation that amplifies BCG's market differentiation in AI and digital delivery. Champion innovation within BCG to drive competitive differentiation in AI-enabled consulting and digital delivery.
What You'll Bring
- 15+ years of (product) engineering leadership experience, including building and running engineering/product orgs of 200+ people.
- Deep understanding of AI technologies, UX, software architecture and modern engineering practices.
- Experience leading onshore and offshore engineering teams.
- Proven track record in scaling engineering organizations, ideally gained in a leading tech firm.
- Experience working in a global professional services, decentralized environment (e.g., BCG, McKinsey, Bain, or other global partnerships), with a deep appreciation for how such organizations operate and make decisions.
- Expertise in digital product design and agile development.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with operational execution in a highly matrixed environment.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the gravitas to engage senior partners and the vision to inspire teams.
- Entrepreneurial, results-driven mindset with a passion for building enduring product engineering capabilities.
