Our Client is growing at 20% year-on-year and employs over 125 MEP engineers, making them one of the UK’s most established specialists in energy centre design and build within the building services sector. Their projects span residential, commercial, healthcare, and education, delivering complex low-carbon infrastructure across the country.
Due to continued expansion, they are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering teams.

About the Role
As part of the Engineering Design team, you will contribute to a broad range of projects from early concept through to fully detailed design. Schemes typically include:
- District and communal heating systems
- Energy centres
- Heat pump systems
You will work on projects at various stages and locations, using a range of technologies. The role involves conceptual design work, site investigations, surveys, client meetings, technical submissions and presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the design of distributed energy schemes, energy centres and district heating networks
- Interpreting, appraising and documenting client requirements
- Carrying out calculations, equipment selection and process design
- Producing schematics and detailed drawings
- Maintaining awareness of cost implications during the design process
- Resolving design issues and minimising project impact
- Ensuring compliance with CDM requirements and internal processes
- Conducting HAZOP studies and risk assessments
- Assisting in the mechanical specification for tender submissions
What You Will Need
- 6+ years’ experience producing mechanical designs within building services, power generation, renewable energy, or similar sectors
- Design experience in at least one of the following: Building Services, CHP, Boilers/Heating, HVAC, Steam, Air Handling, Cooling, Renewable Energy (e.g. Solar or Heat Pumps)
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Full UK manual driving licence
