We are seeking professional, self-motivated, driven and enthusiastic individuals to be part of our team, in our Cafe/Bar Johns Coffee House & Tavern operating within a luxury hostel/Boutique Capsule Hotel on the Royal Mile. We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team at John's Coffee House & Tavern, located within Code Hostel – The Court. This is a key role supporting the kitchen and front-of-house teams to deliver quality food and a clean, welcoming environment for our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and presenting high-quality dishes in line with our menu standards.
  • Prepare and serve a range of hot and cold beverages, including barista-style coffee and alcoholic drinks.
  • Provide friendly and efficient service to all guests at the bar and coffee counter.
  • Ensure stock is received, checked, and stored correctly; report shortages or discrepancies to the Duty Manager.
  • Maintain strict stock rotation and monitor use-by dates to reduce waste.
  • Identify and report any equipment faults or hazards to the Duty Manager promptly.
  • Adapt to varying levels of business, including special events and group bookings.
  • Support with deliveries and maintain cleanliness and order in food storage areas.
  • Take pride in ensuring all kitchen and prep equipment is kept clean and in good condition.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen, including public areas, during and after service.
  • Follow food hygiene and safety procedures in line with current legislation.
  • Attend and complete all necessary training as required by the business.
  • Assist with regular stock checks and inventories.

  • Someone who takes initiative and adapts quickly in a busy hospitality setting.
  • Previous kitchen or hospitality experience is beneficial, but not essential – training will be provided.
