Safety and Security Officer
Role Specification
Code 9 Security is recruiting for a highly competent and professional Safety and Security Officer to join our Business Protection Team. You will be responsible for protecting our clients retail and logistics businesses against a range of threats, including but not limited to shoplifting, internal theft and fraud, while positively contributing to several critical business functions.
Safety and Security Officers are key frontline team members, reporting to a Supervising Business Protection Officer (or a Handler if deployed in a sensitive covert role). Typical duties include overt and covert frontline deployment into retail environments, monitoring surveillance systems, implementing employee search procedures and supporting assignment‑specific functions.
An ideal candidate will inspire respect and authority and possess a high level of professionalism, the ability to deal with situations calmly yet confidently and make well‑reasoned and proportionate decisions, often under pressure.
Responsibilities
Proactively patrol retail premises (stores and shopping centres), internally and externally.
Supervise and facilitate back‑of‑house access and egress of employees and contractors to and from the premises, keeping records as appropriate.
Supervise and facilitate the access and egress for customers (and the wider public) to and from the premises, being compliant with health, safety, accessibility and loss prevention protocols.
Promptly challenge suspected offenders and excluded persons.
Proactively monitor surveillance and alarm systems, promptly responding to observed threats or alarm activations.
Investigate suspicious activity, persons and vehicles of interest, sharing information with colleagues, HR, management and the police, as appropriate.
Maintain appropriate records and detailed accounts of incidents.
Challenge, apprehend, detain, remove and, where appropriate, arrest suspects and liaise with the police to preserve evidence, prepare statements and file incident reports.
At the end of the day, ensure all exits, doors and windows are appropriately secured and alarms set.
Assist stakeholders as appropriate.
Requirements and Skills
Frontline SIA licence in Security Guarding, Door Supervision or Close Protection and CCTV Public Space Surveillance.
First Aid at Work Qualification.
Proven experience as a security officer.
Excellent communication skills.
Familiarity and competence in report writing.
Ability to work confidently alone or as part of a team.
